Profile

I am a qualified Occupational Therapist with 25 years of experience and I’m registered with the Health Professionals Council.  I have been fortunate to gain skills and experience in many different clinical areas, which has led me to specialise in the area of Neurological Rehabilitation.

Currently I work on a Level One Neurological Rehabilitation Unit within the NHS, with clients experiencing profound brain injury. I also have experience working in Level Two Neurological Rehabilitation Units, Specialist Outpatient Clinics and the Community.

Alongside my NHS role I work within the private sector completing Occupational Therapy assessments and establishing treatment programmes within client’s home environments.

I have experience working with a wide range of complex physical and cognitive neurological conditions.  I have a particular specialist interest working with clients experiencing Persistent Disorder of Consciousness (PDOC) and have gained my Advanced Sensory Modality Assessment and Rehabilitation Tool (SMART) accreditation.

I also have experience in discharging clients from hospital, assessing the home environment and ordering appropriate equipment, knowledge and experience completing cognitive assessments, development of sensory regulation programmes, specialist seating assessments for wheelchairs and comfort chairs, upper limb assessment, cognitive treatment programmes, switch skill assessments for accessing augmentative communication  or environmental control, fatigue management and assessment of personal and domestic activities of daily living skills.

As part of my clinical role, I work closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to complete care assessments, handover treatment plans and techniques and feedback therapy interventions.  Both of my Occupational Therapy roles include extensive comprehensive report writing and clinical documentation.  I also have experience chairing and attending meetings. All skills which are transferable into the expert witness role.

I also have experience working with carers, teaching rehabilitation techniques to support and enhance therapy programmes. I enjoy supervising qualified, students and support staff enhancing their skills and knowledge.

I maintain my professional development and specialist interests by clinical and peer supervision, attending regularly training opportunities, conferences and direct study.  I have also participated within research studies / opportunities.
