Profile

I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist (BSc Hons) and have worked with children and families for over 22 years in the field of paediatric special needs, brain injury, spinal injury, and learning disability.

In 2014, I completed the Ministry of Justice Registered Intermediary Training Course at the City Law School, City University London. Since then, I have acted as a Registered Intermediary for vulnerable victims and witnesses (children and adults) in ABE interviews with the Police and prepared reports for Court. I have also acted as a Registered Intermediary for vulnerable witnesses in Court. In 2017, I set up my own independent company, Registered Intermediary and Case Management Services (RICMS Ltd). RICMS Ltd became registered with CQC in October 2023, and I am the Registered Manager.

I have extensive experience working with clients and families following traumatic brain injury and spinal injury.  I have managed integrated therapy and support packages spanning the home and school environments. An intrinsic part of working with children and families has also involved supporting them throughout their education journey. I have also worked with adults with acquired brain injury who have large teams of Support Workers providing 24-hour support in their homes.

I regularly work in partnership with other rehabilitation professionals as part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals, including those from health, education, and social care, from discharge planning through to rehabilitation in the home setting. I have coordinated intensive rehabilitation programmes for children with complex needs.

Prior to, and during my training as a Speech and Language Therapist, I worked as a community-based Support Worker for both adults and children with learning disabilities and complex conditions.

Following my qualification as a Speech and Language Therapist, I worked full-time for three years in the Paediatric Special Needs Department of Gateshead Speech and Language Therapy Service. This was a specialist post where I developed a level of expertise and experience of disorders of communication enabling me to provide an effective service to a more specialist client group e.g. Brain Injury, Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and AAC users. My client group also included children and young people with physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities. My role involved providing assessments, diagnoses, and appropriate speech and language therapy to both children and young adults.

I have worked in a variety of settings including special schools (primary and secondary), community clinics, and client’s own homes. I am a Volunteer Rebound Therapy Assistant for Heel and Toe (Children’s Charity based in the North East).

I have undergone training in the medico legal process and am fully aware of my responsibilities under the Civil Procedure Rules pertaining to expert witnesses.
