I am an experienced Registered Midwife with over 20 years of midwifery and high-acuity clinical experience. I currently work as a Core Triage Midwife at Royal Derby Hospital, where I assess and care for women presenting with a wide range of antenatal and postnatal concerns. This role requires autonomous clinical decision-making, effective risk assessment, prioritisation, escalation and multidisciplinary working within a busy acute maternity environment.

Throughout my career, I have worked extensively within consultant-led maternity services and have considerable experience across all areas of maternity care, with particular expertise in labour ward, maternity triage and high-acuity obstetric care. I have previously worked as a Labour Ward Coordinator at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, where I developed significant clinical leadership and management experience within a demanding maternity environment. I have also continued to broaden my clinical experience through substantive and agency midwifery roles across a number of NHS Trusts.

Alongside my clinical practice, my career has developed into the medico-legal and midwifery expert witness field through my work with Maggie Sargent & Associates. This has provided me with valuable experience in reviewing maternity records, critically analysing standards of care and producing clear, structured and evidence-based professional reports. My work in this field has significantly increased my confidence and expertise in medico-legal report writing, and I endeavour to continue developing and undertaking this work for many years alongside my clinical midwifery career.

I have also worked as a Sexual Offence Examiner (SOE) within the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) team, undertaking specialist forensic examinations and providing sensitive, trauma-informed care to individuals following sexual assault. This was an extremely interesting and valuable role which broadened my clinical experience and further developed my skills in forensic assessment, safeguarding, detailed documentation and communication with individuals in particularly vulnerable circumstances. While I greatly valued the experience and specialist knowledge gained within this field, midwifery remains my principal professional passion and the main focus of my clinical career.

I possess extensive clinical, leadership and management experience within high-pressure maternity environments and remain committed to providing safe, compassionate, woman-centred and evidence-based care to women and their families.

Through my medico-legal work, I have developed a sound understanding of the litigation process and of my responsibilities and duties as an expert witness under the Civil Procedure Rules, including CPR Part 35 and its associated Practice Direction. I understand that my overriding duty as an expert witness is to assist the Court by providing independent, objective and evidence-based opinion within the boundaries of my professional expertise.
