I am a Registered Children’s Nurse with over 28 years’ experience of experience working with children and young people with complex and changeable health conditions, including those with cerebral palsy, brain injury and technology dependent, with additional teaching and oncology qualifications.

I trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London and qualified as a Registered Children’s Nurse in 1998. Following qualification, I worked within the Host Defence Directorate at Great Ormond Street Hospital, initially based on the bone marrow transplant unit, before rotating onto other wards within the Directorate and looking after children and young people with childhood leukaemia and other malignancies.

At the end of 2000 I joined the Community Children’s Nursing Team at St Mary’s Hospital, London and worked as a junior community children’s nurse. I served an economically and culturally diverse and heavily populated part of London, providing services in a variety of community settings, including schools, nurseries and patients’ homes.

In 2002 I moved to Kent and continued to cultivate my clinical skills and expertise within community children’s nursing, culminating in my appointment to the role of Head of Service for Kent Childrens’ Nursing Services, where I remained until leaving the NHS in July 2015. Alongside my head of service role, I worked as an expert witness with Janes James Associates and produced care reports for children with a litigation claim.

Since 2015 I have worked as a clinical case manager with children and young people with complex neurological conditions. My clients all have a high level of need and I utilise my professional experience, skills and knowledge to ensure they have access to appropriate services and opportunities to maximise their well-being, independence and participation in daily life. I provide compassionate support to families especially at times of emotional strain and I have the ability to work effectively when family dynamics are strained due to challenging circumstances.

As a case manager, my clients are at the centre of the assessment process and I have a keen ability to formulate a cogent case management plan to progress my clients’ situations, taking into account health and care needs, therapies, accommodation, education, and social and leisure interests.

From within the NHS and more recently as a case manager, I have significant experience of directly recruiting and managing substantial care teams. I am also adept at commissioning and coordinating specialist services and therapy teams, both private and statutory, to ensure my clients have access to optimal professional support and care, and that professionals are integrated and work cohesively to ensure the best possible outcomes.
